Your Weekly Music/Entertainment Industry Social Media Wrap-Up
Must Read(s) Of The Week:
The man in the picture, boys and girls, is currently the most hated man in America. His name is Martin Shkreli and he runs a pharmaceutical company that just raised the price of a drug called Daraphrim from $13.50 per pill to… $750. He’s also an investor in Collect Records.
Was an investor.
Because of the outrage over the price hike, the man in charge of Collect, Geoff Rickly (who’s also the frontman for the band No Devotion), had to break ties with his biggest form of income. And now the label is likely to go out of business.
How has this happened so quickly? And why? Read this article now and get a full sense of what happens when you cut a deal with the devil – and have the character to recognize him when he rears his ugly horns.
(Thanks to Cole Mozelesky for this story.)
Must Read of the Week #2:
Click and read this great interview with Allen Kovac, the manager of bands as diverse as Blondie, Five Finger Death Punch, Nelly Furtado, Motley Crue and the Bee Gees.
For those of you wondering what to look for in a manager, or for those of you interested in becoming one, here’s a great account of what one type of manager is like. Oh, you’ll learn some stuff too.
While you’re reading, how about streaming WPSC: Brave New Radio HERE.

Interested in what the top streaming services are? Curious about how they’re different from one another? Click on the link or pic and you’ll have a real good sense.
If you look at the link above, you’ll see that YouTube isn’t part of the list of streaming services. That’s about to change. Click to read what details we have (some of this is still hush hush) and think about how this service, on the world’s largest streaming service, may affect you as a music maker, marketer, or consumer.
We try to include at least one article on the international biz for you to read each week. This is an extensive look at what’s gone on in the Russian music industry since the fall of Communism in the late-’80s. There’s lots of politics, religion, and corruption to read about, so click.
Why should you care about this? Because your mobile providers are doing all they can to incentivize you to use them. In a way, they’re like music streaming companies, each trying to one-up the other with exclusives and a better consumer experience.
Plus, if you knew Snapchat at one point offered platform-specific Warner Music Group content, they you should see that this Verizon channel may be an opportunity to get more music videos in front of a captive, yet mobile, audience. Read and think on this. It’ll be good for yuze.
