Weekly Social Media Wrap-Up

Here’s your weekly music & entertainment industry wrap-up.  We don’t cover celebrity couples.  No, man.  We’re hardcore when it comes to the music business and the entertainment biz.  Come back every week to find out what you wanna find out.  Or click HERE to sign up for our weekly newsletter.  Still, what is up with Kim & Kanye?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Must Read of the Week:

Adele’s Manager: ‘Streaming’s the Future, Whether People Like it or Not”

Oh my.  The whole recording industry is all up in arms about Taylor Swift pulling her catalog from Spotify.  Her decision, in my opinion, hasn’t been explained well enough. There are holes in her arguments.  Read THIS, which came out Saturday.  Even her label owner is still sloppily leaving out YouTube.  That is streaming.  Yet, all the artists pick on Spotify.  I’ve got no horse in this race, the cliche goes.  I’d just like all the horses to run in straight lines.  Unfortunately, the track is a circle.

Must Read of the Week (Parte Dos):

How The Cartoon Network Grew Up

This is a great, in-depth interview with the CMO of the Cartoon Network, Michael Ouweleen.  He talks about the evolution of humor, of cartoons, and how to develop a company that bends genres and changes how people laugh.

Big Announcement of the Week:

Our big & awesome guest on this week’s Music Biz 101 & More radio show (the only FREE advice music business talk show in the United States) is record company owner, artist, musician, music supervisor, and educator Al Cohen.

Al owns ACM Records, which has been around for over 20 years.  How have they been able to survive, and thrive, over all the changes over the past two decades?  How did Al carve out so many relationships with major labels and companies?  And what happens when the Academy of Country Music decides their ACM is better than your ACM?

Tune your radio dials to 88.7 FM at 8pm this WEDNESDAY night to find out.  Orstream it live HERE.

Pic of the Week Dos:

Really, this isn’t a pic o’ da week either, but it’s something created by social media intern Sierra Binondo.  And no, you’re not weird.
