Weekly music industry wrap up

We’re back after a one-week hiatus.  Some of that hia-uh-tee will be seen below in your Weekly Music/Entertainment Industry Social Media Wrap-Up.  If you’d like to get this emailed to you each week, simply sign up HERE with your email address.

On to the wrap-up!

Must Listen of the Week:

‘Calling All Fans’: Korean Pop Invasion Rallies Americans In LA

If you don’t know anything about K-Pop, it’s time you did.  This is a good report from NPR that gives you a primer on the music (it’s more than just “Gangham Style”) and its fans.  Don’t ignore this.  One of Scooter Braun’s (manager or Arianna Grande & Justin Bieber) clients?  Psy.

Must Listen of the Week II:

Autobot$ Rule: Why ‘Transformers 4’ Is China’s Box Office Champ

The world is more than just America (sounds like a good book or James Bond movie title).  You should listen to this and try to figure out what makes China, the world’s #1 economy, tick from an entertainment and cultural standpoint.  Question: Have you seen all 4 Transformers movies?  Have you seen any of them?

Must Read of the Week:

5 Lessons For The Music Industry From Weird Al Yankovic

This guy is older than fifty.  He’s not supposed to have a #1 album.  You’re not even supposed to care.  How has he been able to do what so many other artists from the Classic Rock generation can’t?  What’s in it for you?  Click & read, mmmkay?

Announcement of the Week:

Your Music Biz 101 & More Radio Show To Debut Season #2 September 3rd

Did you know our (meaning yours & my) Music Biz 101 & More radio show is the only FREE advice music business talk show in the United States?  Yup, ’tis.  Start tuning your radio dials to 88.7 FM at 8pm on September 3rd.  Or stream it live HERE.

Pic of the Week Uno:

Last week, I was in Nashville, the capital of Country music.  American Idol was there too.  This is James, who won a golden ticket to Hollywood.  He let me snap this pic before the AI handlers kicked me out of the building.  Root for the boy.  He’s a nice fella.

Pic of the Week Dos:

Stax Records in Memphis was one of the most influential record labels in American history.  During my journey to the Soul City, I took this pic for your visual pleasure.  If you ever get a chance to hit up Nashville & Memphis (they’re 3 hours from each other and eons apart in every other way), do it.

To always keep up with pics of what’s going on around WPU and its Music Biz department (covering all things music), follow our Instagram Page HERE or Music Biz 101 Facebook page HERE.
