Rob Fusari custom CD

Rob Fusari is a successful dude.  He’s won two Grammy Awards, thanks to his writing and producing with Lady Gaga. He’s written and produced big hits for Destiny’s Child and Will Smith.  He’s recorded and toured under the pseudonym Cary Nokey.  Now, he’s giving himself a pure solo shot, performing on April 27th at The Cutting Room in New York City as Rob Fusari.

Rob is playing in support of his new single, “Don’t Let Love Down,” a track co-written with Lady Gaga from before she was Lady Gaga, when she was simply Stefani Germanotta.  The track is a Beatle-esque number, with shades of “Strawberry Fields” (which is even mentioned) and a title reminiscent of the Beatles’ “Don’t Let Me Down.”  Compare the two.  First, here’s Rob’s song.

Here’s “Don’t Let Me Down.”

Rob’s backing band at The Cutting Room show includes Music Biz students from the William Paterson University Popular Music Studies and Music Management programs:

  • Bobby Mahoney – Guitar
  • Ashley Overa – Guitar, Vocals
  • Cole Mozelesky – Bass
  • Kristina Rigamonti – Vocals

The drummer is Professor David Kirk Philp.  He does his best to keep up.

Students can get into the show for ten bucks (that’s dollars, not male deer).  There will be body painters and artist Zane Fix, who’s created art like this:

John Lennon by Zane Fix

Want to buy some of Zane’s art?  You can do it at the show and he’ll donate a portion of the proceeds to William Paterson University music scholarships.  Yeah, you see, this show is a fundraiser too.  Rob is the gift that keeps on giving.  We get his music and we get to see him giving back to his alma mater (an allegorical Latin phrase for college or university).

WP Music Biz students (including Joelle Filippe, Yasmin Azhir, and Bianca Russo) will help work the show and (wo)man the merch table.  One cluster of items for sale includes custom CDs, which will look something like this:

These are one-of-a-kind custom CDs put together by these same Music Biz students (including the previously unmentioned Marla Cassenti).  Each CD will include three songs:

  1. “Don’t Let Love Down”
  2. “No 1 Can No”
  3. “Wonderful”

This is “No 1 Can No.”  Hear the Beatles influence in this too?

Only 25 of these custom CDs will be created, each one numbered, autographed, and featuring different artwork.

You can listen to Rob on April 20th on the Music Biz 101 & More radio show, streamed live on Brave New Radio: WPSC. You can hear it HERE at 8:00.
