Warner Music Artist Services’ Dan Goldberg & Matt Young: Your 2016-2017 Resident Experts
The William Paterson University Music Management program is happy to announce that Dan Goldberg and Matt Young of Warner Music Artist Services will serve as the program’s 2016-2017 Resident Experts. They will visit the Wayne, New Jersey campus frequently during both fall and spring semesters, visiting classes, lecturing, and helping mentor one of the country’s leading music business programs.
In his current position as Senior Vice President, Warner Music Artist Services at Warner Music Group, Dan leads Warner Music Group’s global business strategy and commercial development of e-commerce, merchandising, ticketing, and fan club businesses as well as oversees a global team of digital strategy & marketing (CRM, Campaign Management, Consumer Analytics, Web & Mobile Strategy) and digital operations experts whose strategic mission is to place the right offers in front of the right fans at the right times, while driving fan engagement and revenue. He holds a law degree from Brooklyn Law School and is a member of the New York State Bar.

Recently, WEA Corp. combined of all its direct-to-fan and merchandise capabilities into one, newly formed division called ‘Warner Music Artist Services.’ Matt Young, a nearly 20 year music industry veteran, was recently promoted to EVP of this new Warner Music Artist Services. The division will offer a suite of ancillary rights services for recording artists, encompassing direct-to-fan e-commerce, fan-clubs, website design, ticketing, merchandising, marketing, account management, and data research & analysis.
Prior to joining WMG in 2008, Matt owned his own record label, as well as held executive positions at two other merchandising companies where he curated global product strategies for brands such as My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Snoop Dog, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and many more.
Young got his start as an on air college DJ for WSOU at Seton Hall University and turned internships into full-time jobs, eventually making the jump to merchandise. He is a married father of 3 and born and raised in NJ.
The differences between Matt’s role vs. Dan’s is that Matt is basically the A&R source for Warner Music Artist Services (either signing artists, or “making product”). Dan’s group sells and markets that product (as well as non 360-product).
Dan and Matt work with a wide range of artists, including Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa, Bruno Mars, 21 Pilots, Michael Buble, and Blake Shelton.
Goldberg and Young will appear in a pre-recorded segment of the Music Biz 101 & More radio show on September 7th at 8pm on WP 88.7 Brave New Radio. That segment is already available as a podcast, which you can listen to below.
