If not, we get going right away with introductions of producer Phillip Gorokhovsky and student co-host Geneva Gamblin (Gee-Star when she broadcasts her radio show on Brave New Radio).  At 8:22, Jim Donio (we call him Jim but you can call him James), calls in and Doc Marcone asks why the Music Business Association changed its name from NARM to its current name.

Jim talks about the whole “branding transition” at 11:22, including how the “M” in NARM never stood for “music.”

We wanted to be very clear the visual identity was focused on the M and that the M stood for music.

At 13 minutes, Jim talks about the various stakeholders in the Music Business Association, including startups and app developers.

At 16 minutes in, Steve Marcone asks about the differences between the NAMM trade association and the Music Business Association.

Jim Donio called in, so the big photo-op included Geneva Gamblin and Dr. Stephen Marcone (front) and producer Phillip Gorokhovsky and Professor David Philp (back).

Marcone talks about the “dicey subjects” the Music Business Association hasn’t been afraid to take on at 18 minutes.  President Donio goes on to talk about the various groups the Music Business Association works with to improve the climate for music in the United States.  This leads to Jim’s description of the yearly convention, which took place in Nashville in 2015.

At 29 minutes in, Marcone asks about how the industry was able to recover after The Great Recession.

Philp introduces Geneva Gamblin to Jim at 33 minutes in.  Geneva goes on to read the first tweet of the night.

Philp asks about the Music Business Association’s independent retail membership at 36 minutes in. The next tweet is read at 38 minutes in.

Geneva reads our next tweet 39 minutes into this excellent interview:

At 41:47, your Professor Philp asks about the universal streetdate (global release date) issue, including what a universal streetdate is, who made the decision, and what it means for music retail. At about the 50-minute mark, Geneva Gamblin reads our last tweet of the night:

We thank Jim at 52 minutes in and take a quick break.  Listen to a net commercial for the show you’re listening too.  See what we did?
