On Tuesday, November 11th, William Paterson University’s Music Entertainment Organization (MEO) put on a showcase featuring seven performers from this very school. I was surprised by the talent and passion that eluded from each individual and I could tell that all of them loved to perform in front of an audience. If you missed the showcase, which you really shouldn’t have, I’m going to recap the event, the performers and the overall quality of their performances.
The showcase took place in the Multi-Purpose Room, which was a perfect “venue.” Joelle, Grace, Joey and the other MEO members that helped decorate the room did an awesome job. Joelle spent over 12 hours making a cut-out of an MEO Instagram photo. There were so many music-related decorations on the back wall, right behind the stage, which made taking pictures of the performances much easier. There was also free pizza, cookies and a raffle to win a couple gift cards! If you didn’t make it, you missed out on great music, great food and a great time.
Now, on to the performers:
Justin & Fatima
This was the first time Justin and Fatima have performed together, they recently just met this semester. Fatima is a freshman while Justin is a junior transfer student. Both are currently majoring in Music Studies but they each plan on transferring into the Pop Music Program. They would describe their sound as Pop-Alternative heavily influenced by Soul.
Nicco, Jonny and Tommy (on behalf of Casanova)
Nicco, Jonny and Tommy performed on behalf of their band, Casanova. Casanova is a local band from New Jersey that combines classic R&B with Rock ‘n’ Roll guitar riffs and reggae-influenced rhythms. Nicco, the frontman, is an urban sensation from Nutley. Jonny brings you the catchy licks and riffs that you’ll never forget. Tommy is a guitar player with a great taste in tone and killin’ licks. Follow them on social media and keep your eye out for the big things coming to this group.
Bobby Mahoney is the lead vocalist and guitarist for Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son. Aside from performing with his band, he also plays as a dynamic solo acoustic act. He has played locally while being able to travel as far north as Canada. His biggest musical influences are Bruce Springsteen Green Day, The Rolling Stones and The Gaslight Anthem.
Enki Bello is a Colombian Pop Harpist, singer/songwriter and record producer who began working in the Colombian music scene in 1999. Beginning in middle school, Enki was able to demonstrate her incredible ability with Colombian, Folk, Latin American, Pop, Rock and International music. In 2010, she released her first solo album called “The Magic of the Harp.” She is a transfer student studying Music Management and Commercial Popular Music.
Nicky Costabile is a singer and songwriter looking to change the world one song at a time! She continues to play live throughout the tri-state area and is currently working on her first full-studio album.

Alexa Rae is a singer, songwriter, actress, model and aspiring TV-show host. She has been singing since she was nine years old and at the age of 13, she began to pursue a career in music. She just released her original song “Behind the Scenes” on iTunes. Alexa mostly sings pop music but she appreciates music from all genres and time eras/periods.
Tim Gysin is a 19-year-old pianist/singer/songwriter from Bergen County, New Jersey. He has been playing piano since he was two years old and he has been singing since he was 12. The showcase did exactly what it was meant to do: showcased talented artists to people who may not have known who they were before.
Make sure you guys check out these up and coming artists, they are the future of music.
And as always, support local music!!! Your support goes a long way for developing artists.
