John Boulos, music industry veteran who has worked for record labels as varied as London, PolyGram, Warner, Vanguard, Virgin, Epic, and Capitol, will be the Resident Expert of the William Paterson University Music & Entertainment Industries (formerly Music Management) program for the 2017-2018 academic year.

John is currently Executive Vice President of Roadrunner Promotion/Atlantic Records, working multi-formatted artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Wiz Khalifa, Saint Motel, Paramore, Charli XCX and newly announced Kelly Clarkson.

“It’s great to have a legendary radio promotion exec share his knowledge with our students for an entire school year,” said Dr. Stephen Marcone, the head of the WP music biz program since 1984.

Boulos will visit various undergrad and graduate-level classes during the collegiate year, speaking about his experience and teaching students lessons he feels are necessary for them to understand as they enter the industry.

Born, raised and educated in New York City, John Boulos started his industry career in the mailroom at London records in 1976 after two semesters at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  He immediately started promoting club DJ’s during the explosive dance era in 1977.

One year later he became the New York local promotion rep for London records. In 1979, he took his club and radio promotion skills over to Vanguard Records and Inner City Records, both highly successful music companies that had jumped into the exploding dance music scene.

Subsequently, he moved to RCA Records as a New York promotion rep, and then to Island Records as East Coast Promotion Manager in 1984.

After a 2-year stint at Mercury Records as National Promotion Director, he became VP of Promotion for Virgin Records in 1988; a post he held for 8 years before he went to Epic Records as SVP of Promotion.

In 1998 he was named SVP of Promotion for Warner Brothers Records. In the spring of 2004, John fled New York to become SVP of Promotion for Capitol Records based out of Los Angeles. He left Los Angeles in 2006 to return to his native New York.

John raised 4 children in Westchester County, New York:

  • Brian, 32, is a fashion photographer based in NYC.
  • Kimberly, 30, is a professional soccer player in Stockholm and plays with the Haiti National World Cup team based in Port Au Prince, Haiti.
